Subtotal removal of the scapula for aneurysmal bone cyst.

چکیده
An otherwise healthy girl, ten years old, first complained of pain and swelling in the right scapula in June 1953. There was no interference with function of her shoulder or arm. Radiographs gave evidence of an expanding cystic tumour in the body of the scapula. All other investigations showed no abnormality. The lesion was explored. The cyst was opened, curetted and filled with bone chips. It contained a thin sanguineous fluid and a scanty lining membrane. This presented the histology of a benign giant-cell tumour, with large thin-walled spaces filled with blood and some areas of new-bone formation (Fig. 1). The walls of the septa between the cyst spaces were fibrous.

Aneurysmal bone cyst of the scapula. A case report.
Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is an uncommon, benign but locally destructive bone lesion of unknown origin. Differential diagnosis can be challenging as it shares common radiological and pathological features with other benign and malignant bone lesions. The degree of diagnostic difficulty grows even more when an unusual location has to be taken into account. We report a rare and challenging case ...
متن کاملBenign chondroblastoma with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst in scapula
Introduction Chondroblastoma is a rare benign bone tumour, but locally destructive lesion although metastases may occur. It usually presents in the second decade of life. It is typically localised in the epiphyses of the long bones. Localisation in flat bones is unusual. Males are affected more often than females, the ratio being approximately 2:1. Common clinical symptoms are pain and a decrea...
متن کاملRecurrent Psammomatoid Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma with Aneurysmal Bone Cyst: An Unusual Case Presentation
Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is a rare, benign, locally aggressive entity of the extragnathic craniofacial bones with a high tendency towards recurrence. Two distinctive microscopic patterns of juvenile ossifying fibroma have been described: a trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma (TrJOF) and a psammomatoid juvenile ossifying fibroma (PJOF). Psammomatoid variant is predominantly a craniofac...
متن کاملA Rare Case of Aneurysmal Bone Cyst in the Paranasal Sinus
Introduction: Aneurysmal Bone cysts (ABC) are extremely rare in the head and neck region and even rarer in sinuses. ABC is a benign multicystic mass that is locally-destructive and rapidly expandable. Hemorrhagic fluid content (like in this case) and septated appearance are the characteristic feature of ABC. Established treatment options for ABCs include sclerotherapy, embolization, radiothera...
متن کاملGiant cell tumor of the scapula associated with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst.
Giant cell tumors are distinctive neoplasms characterized by a profusion of multinucleate giant cells scattered throughout a stroma of mononuclear cells. Most giant cell tumors are found at the epiphyses of long bones, especially around the knee joint. Flat bone involvement is rare. However, a case of giant cell tumor with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst was encountered at the scapula of a 25-ye...
